If you are thinking of joining an amateur theatre company, then look no further, there’s something for everyone with Bilston Operatic Company.

If you are between the ages of 9-18, we have our Youth Company. Set up in 2014, the Youth Company will perform their first show in May 2015.  Following this, rehearsals will then start for a concert that they will be presenting in September 2015. The concert is an ideal opportunity for members to show case their talent with a mixture of solos, duets, small group songs and chorus numbers. We like to encourage people to perform in these concerts to gain confidence to audition and ultimately gain a principal role in the main show if they wish to.  We hope the Youth Company will act as a ‘feeder’ to the main company which members can audition to join once they are 14. We already have many 14-18 year olds who are members of both.

The ‘adult’ company is for people age 14 and above. We have no upper age limit, with several members in their 70’s. To use the old cliché, we are a ‘family’ company with many mothers & fathers, daughters, sons, brothers and sisters & cousins all as acting or non-acting members and we welcome each and everyone to our ‘family’. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anyone when you join, you soon will, as we pride ourselves in being a warm, welcoming, friendly society. Many members have become lifelong friends as we all share the same common interest.

If performing on stage is not for you but you still want to be part of the ‘buzz’ of a theatre group, then we have many opportunities for non-acting members, such as front of house, back stage, wardrobe and chaperoning to name but a few.

The key to the success of any amateur theatre company is its members. We believe that if you are having fun and enjoying yourselves, then the hard work it takes to put on shows and concerts becomes a lot easier. This is ultimately a hobby, but for everyone involved it is also a passion. There is no greater thrill than to entertain and the sense of achievement everyone feels after a performance is unbelievable. We are all like minded people who love what we do and want you to be a part of our company and experience all this for yourself.

New Members Auditions

Full Monty new member auditions are on Monday 26th March 2018

All potential new members will be asked to attend an audition. You will be required to sing a song of your choice so please bring sheet music or backing track and player.

You will also be required to perform a short piece of poetry, prose or dialogue - again from choice. If you need someone to read in a part we can do this for you.

If you wish to audition for the company then please complete the application form and post it to the address on the bottom of the form. You will be notified of a date and time for your audition. Or contact us here for more information.

If being on stage is not for you but you are interested in other aspects of an amateur theatre group then please get in touch. We always need volunteers to help backstage, with costumes, chaperoning and many other things.

Helen Guy

I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank all involved in the production of Peter Pan, before the show gets under way.

Joshua & Harry are new to the company, but I cannot stress enough how much they have enjoyed the experience.

Although we live in Telford & it is quite a journey, they have always been excited to come across to either Springvale or Old Fallings to rehearse. They have shown commitment & enthusiasm to the show & have met new friends along the way.

I can fully appreciate the stress that you are all under, but the professionalism & organisation of the company is so refreshing. I won't name individuals, because I'll probably offend someone if I miss them out, but as a parent (& a primary school teacher) who is looking in you are all a great team.

Costumes, ticket sales, DVD, party, emails, communication, programme, script, musical accompaniment, direction, choreography etc have all been amazing. Congratulations to you all, I can't thank you enough.

We can't wait to see the show.
Good Luck!

I've been a part of Bilston Operatic Company for four years and have been privileged to be part of some amazing shows. There's a brilliant variety of people to work with and everyone's really friendly.

It doesn't matter if people have been members for 20 years or 20 days, everyone is made welcome and included in the group. The shows are always professional and everyone works hard to put them on. It's a great company to be a part of.

I have been a member of Bilston Operatic company for 23 years now and am extremely proud to be associated with such a talented company who put on amazingly professional shows.

From the moment I joined I found the members welcoming and rehearsals always fun. Show week is quite an experience! The friends you make from the start of rehearsals to the last performance become life long friends and I can honestly say I have laughed till I've cried at some of the dressing room antics!!

My daughters have also taken part in our shows before going off to Uni and there is a real 'family' feel about BOC with the older and younger members all socialising together. It has been a pleasure to watch our younger members develop their confidence and give great performances. For some, it has given them a good start in a career within musical theatre and we are all really proud of them.

I would thoroughly recommend joining Bilston Operatic Company whether it be to play a leading role, be a chorus member or help out backstage.

It really has been a great hobby for me and given me hours of pleasure.
